ONE DAY ITINERARY

Tangipahoa Parish's 51 miles of enjoyment offer endless opportunities for exciting adventures. Start you day off with a home-style breakfast at one of the local favorite cafes in Ponchatoula. Just outside the cafe you'll find yourself in the center of America's Antique City. Vintage shops, charming boutiques and quaint cafe's can be enjoyed in the picturesque town. Be sure to stop by the Collinswood Museum, LA Treasures Museum and Country Market while visiting the Strawberry Capitol of Louisiana.

While in Ponchatoula visit Kliebert's Alligator and Turtle Farm. Sign up for the hour-long tour to discover how the business began and the preservation efforts still used today.

Continue in the strawberry spirit by taking a short ride to Liuzza Farms in Amite. Seasonal u-pick is available for fruits and vegetables. While there, enjoy a ride around the fields on a covered wagon or partake in planting seeding in their greenhouse. Activities change with the seasons and crops. Check back often for new ways to enjoy farm life.

A short drive south to independence to taste homemade strawberry, blueberry, cranberry, orange, muscadine or peach wines at
Amato's Winery. Bottles and even cases of wine are readily available for purchase once you've chosen your favorite flavor.

Your afternoon adventure may include an action packed exploration of Global Wildlife Center. Home to over 3,000 rare and endangered animals at the preserve the humans are held captive by wagons as the animals roam freely. The 1.5 hour tour introduces you to giraffes, zebra, deer, kangaroos and more with an up-close and personal encounter.

Wrap up your day at a favorite seafood restaurant in Manchac. Be sure to try famous thin-fried catfish as you wind-down the day on the deck overlooking Pass Manchac.

THREE DAY ITINERARY

Use the one day itinerary above as the first day of you three day tour through Tangipahoa parish.

DAY TWO

Begin your day with a scrumptious breakfast at a quaint Cafe or Coffee House in downtown Hammond. Take a little time to explore the revitalized downtown area. Shoppers will love the boutiques and specialty stores.

Stroll leisurely through the local art galleries and the Hammond Regional Arts Center for a viewing of the talented artists who claim Tangipahoa Parish as home.

Just adjacent to the downtown area is Hammond Square Shopping Mall. The newly constructed open-air shopping center is home to big box stores as well as posh boutiques. Numerous delicious restaurants are also on-site.

Next you're off to the Tangipahoa Parish African American Heritage Museum. This interpretive museum is home to 23 eight by four feet murals which showcase native life in Africa, the plight through slavery and present day life. This moving tribute is sure to enlighten and inspire. Other exhibits include an Inventions room, rotating arts displays, genealogy lab, recording studio, ballroom and dinner theater space.

The Columbia Theatre supplies the community with an amazing assortment of entertainers. From Hairspray, the musical, to ballet and orchestra performances, the entertainment at the Columbia is top notch and always impresses. Plan your schedule accordingly so you will be in town for your favorite performer.

DAY THREE

Day three begins with a visit to Camp Moore Confederate Museum and Cemetery, the only training camp in the United States that is still open to the public. The museum displays tell the story of the common soldier. Artifacts include clothing, knapsacks, medicines, games musical instruments and more. Each November, a reenactment is held in honor of the fallen soldiers.

Travel South to Amite for lunch at one of several outstanding local restaurants. Continue South on Interstate 55 or the scenic Highway 51 back to Hammond. Following you eventful 2.5 days of tours, indulge in a special spa treatment at one of the nationally recognized local Spas. Simple services include paraffin hand wax treatments, Mani/pedicures and chair massages. More extensive services include massages, facials and full body treatments. Let the serene setting transport you to a place of relaxation to aid your fatigued muscles.
